February 21 2012, London: Many of the British music industry’s biggest names were in London for this year’s Brit Awards. Obviously, Ben was in attendance. He even showed up on stage to present the British Male Solo Artist award. Ed Sheeran took home the prize. Congratz!!! Check out some photos of Ben from yesterday’s evening below.

Plan B launches publishing company with EMI

EMI Music Publishing has teamed up with Plan B to launch a joint venture called Temperamental Music.

The deal with the 679/Atlantic Records signing, whose real name is Ben Drew, will see him overseeing the signing and development of songwriters to the new company, while EMI will look after areas such as sync, licensing and administration globally.

Drew talks at length in this week’s Music Week about the new venture, which partly fulfils an ambition he has had since being a kid to have his own record label and music publishing company.

“I feel I can help raw young musicians, planting some positive seeds in their head, help them progress,” he added.

EMI Music Publishing UK president Guy Moot said: “You have to have a huge amount of respect for all that Ben he has achieved not just as an artist but as a writer in the last five years. He knows what it takes to become a successful writer, and he recognises real talent when he sees it. He will bring the same strong creative vision to his publishing company that he brings to everything he else he does, and we at EMI Music Publishing are looking forward to building this new long-term relationship with him to maximise the opportunity for the writers he signs to have their music heard on a global platform”.

The publisher’s A&R vice president Daniel Lloyd Jones said Drew’s drive was second to none, noting: “He prides himself on excelling in everything does – his music, acting and directing – he is infectious and it’s a privilege to be around his creative talents. The focus of this partnership deal is to channel his vision and creativity and support him in totality.”

“iLL Manors” Soundtrack – Full Details!

Plan B has announced full details of his new film and album ‘iLL Manors’.

The film, which stars Riz Ahmed, Nathalie Press and Dannielle Brent, will be released on May 4 and is set in Forest Gate in London. The film runs over the course of a few days, with six inter-linking short stories, represented by a different rap song, coming together at the end.

The soundtrack for iLL Manors will be released on May 7 via Atlantic Records.

Speaking about the album, Plan B said: “You could call ‘iLL Manor’s bass-line, soul, hip-hop. The album has the lyrical depth of my first record but the musical composition is light years ahead as it’s informed by everything I’ve learnt in the last five years – writing, producing and playing with a live band. I feel I’m better than I’ve ever been.”

Plan B will tour the UK this summer, playing seven shows in forests across the UK. The gigs begin at Thetford Forest on June 15 and then take in five further forests before finishing up on July 7 at Delamere Forest in Cheshire.

On Thursday 26 January, luxury Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil celebrated its continued sponsorship with The BRIT Awards by holding its Pre-BRIT Awards Dinner, hosted by Singer/ Songwriter and producer Labrinth.

 The intimate dinner for eighty of Labrinth’s closest contacts and associates took place at Mosaica – Labrinth’s restaurant in Wood Green and was attended by some of the UK’s finest musical talents including past BRIT Awards winners and nominated artists for this years ceremony. The event was an unforgettable night with world-class cuisine curated by head chef, Steve Goode who created a very traditional British menu, bespoke cocktails and special live music performances from Labrinth, Kyra, Bluey Robinson and Etta Bond. Celebrities in attendance included: Labrinth, Tinie Tempah, Ed Sheeran, Plan B, Emeli Sande, Rizzle Kicks, Etta Bond, Wretch 32, Tinchy Stryder, Little Mix and others.

“iLL Manors” will be released in cinemas on May 4, 2012!

Official website has confirmed that Plan B’s directorial debut “iLL Manors” will be released in cinemas nationwide on May 4, 2012.

Synopsis:

The much anticipated feature length debut of award-winning rapper and singer Plan B (aka Ben Drew), Drew steps behind the camera to direct ill Manors, an urban musical, set on the streets of East London, where he grew up.

ill Manors is a multi-character story set over a few days on the streets of East London. Working from his own script, ill Manors will also feature brand new music from Plan B. The film focuses on several core characters and their circles of violence as they survive the streets of East London. Each story weaves into one another, painting an ultra-realistic gritty picture of the world which is on the brink of self-destruction.

Inside you’ll find Ray Winstone and Plan B, Richard at the NASCAR, James on a rather bizarre lap of Dunsfold, a flying man with wings, Jeremy in a wig blowing up a caravan, a C63 AMG Black in a cloud of tyre-smoke and a new, dapper incarnation of the Stig.

Plan B announces UK Tour for summer 2012

Plan B has announced he will tour the UK next year.

Instead of playing traditional concert venues, the singer will play a series of gigs in British forests during summer 2012.

Speaking about the tour, Plan B said: “It’s going to be a real adventure taking the Plan B show into the woods.”

The 28-year-old’s latest album, The Defamation of Strickland Banks, was one of the best-selling albums of last year.

As part of the annual Forestry Commission Live Music festival, woodland areas are temporarily transformed into concert arenas.

The Forestry Commission say profits from ticket sales will be spent on “improving the local forests for both people and wildlife”.

The rapper, whose real name is Ben Drew, has previously scored top 20 hits in the UK singles chart with Stay Too Long, She Said and Prayin’.

Earlier this year, he won the Brit Award for best British male, plus three Ivor Novello Awards including album of the year.

Plan B wins the Vanguard Award at the ASCAP London Awards

British artist Taio Cruz was named songwriter of the year and his hit single “Dynamite” won song of the year honors at the 31st annual ASCAP London Awards on Wednesday.

U.K. rapper Plan B received the Vanguard Award for his hit album The Defamation of Strickland Banks and British singer/songwriter Paloma Faith won the college award for her platinum-selling debut album Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful?.
